WHAT YOU WILL COVER...

The Instructional Design Fundamentals course covers these four popular modules from our instructional design programme:

PA01: Setting the Scene

This module lays some key foundational ideas and principles, by exploring three three key areas:

  • How theories of instructional design exert significant influence over how we think about learning.
  • How to identify and leverage likely levels of motivation amongst your learners.
  • How to establish a framework for evaluating your learning, from the outset.

PA02 Getting Up and Running

This very task-focused module guides you through 2 key elements of your early stage analysis work:

  • gathering a clear picture of your learners, and
  • identifying their needs.

The module also explores how to align those learner needs with the evaluation framework introduced in module PA01.

PA04 Analysing Your Content

This module focuses specifically on the third (and often forgotten) element of the early stage development cycle: analysing and scoping your content.

The module introduces a simple content taxonomy which enables you to better analyse, scope and categorise subject matter expert content based on learner need.

This avoids subject matter expert preferences influencing content scope.

PA04 Successful Skills and Knowledge Transfer

This module introduces:

  • the skills and knowledge transfer continuum.
  • the three types of transfer that sit on this continuum.
  • how to identify the kind of transfer type (or types) for the content you are working with, and
  • the implications this has for your learning design – especially in relation to the type of practice you build into your design.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

Instructional Design Fundamentals is ideal for anyone:

  • new to instructional design.
  • with existing, but limited instructional design experience.
  • with lots of experience, but no previous formal training in instructional design.

HOW YOU WILL BENEFIT

This course will help you to:

  • Explore key approaches to and aspects of instructional design
  • Integrate newer, alternative approaches with more traditional ones.
  • Analyse your subject matter to better understand its purpose and relevance for your intended learners.
  • Apply different types of transfer effectively in your course design and understand when you should use each type.
  • Select the most effective types of practice for your learners, based on context and delivery medium.
